User Guide
To launch the program, click on the Start Menu and select “SAMFE Launcher” or simply double-click on the SAMFE Launcher desktop icon.
Screen Settings
The first time you launch the program, you will be asked if you want to use the default screen settings. We recommend clicking “yes.” To update your screen settings at any time after this, select “Overview” and then click “Settings” from the bottom right corner of your screen. From here, you may update your resolution and select a windowed or unwindowed view.
Closed Captions
Closed captions may be turned on or off through the Settings menu. Captions will appear in the top left corner of the screen.
Updates
Anytime an update is available, it will begin downloading as soon as you open the SAMFE Launcher. Some updates may take a long time to load.
Distribution Details
The purpose of this document is to provide a comprehensive overview of the details surrounding the description, requirements, and functionality contained in the Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Exam Virtual Practicum. This document should serve as a comprehensive document for individuals and IT professionals with questions regarding the products installation and usage in a personal and enterprise environment.
Getting Started
Signing into the Program
Following the opening credits screen, you will sign into the Virtual Practicum, so your progress through the program can be saved. Returning users can select their name from the roster on the right side of the login screen to resume their progress.
If you are using the program for the first time, click the “New Student” button and you will be asked to type in your first and last names. Please note: This is the name that will appear on your Certificate of Completion. After you select which profession fits you best, you will be asked to review what you entered. You can edit the information or click “Begin” to start the program.
Navigating the Program
On the Student Sign-in Page, you can click the Navigation Video button to see how you can navigate the Virtual Practicum and what you’ll find in each room.
The Virtual Practicum facility includes many different areas, which you can visit in any order.

Moving Around the Facility
To get around the facility, move your mouse around the hallways. The cursor will turn into a large arrow, indicating where you will go if you click.

Control Buttons
Throughout the program, these control buttons will appear at the bottom of the screen to help you navigate through training presentations. The “back” button takes you back one step to review material you’ve just covered. The “pause” button temporarily halts a presentation (click “resume” to continue the presentation). The “forward” button skips ahead to the next section of material. However, the amount of skipped material varies, so we recommend using this cautiously.

Escape Key
Hitting the Escape key [Esc] skips the audio or video that is currently playing. This can be used to skip sections of the program that you’ve already seen or heard, such as the opening credits for returning users. Again, you will want to use this cautiously, because it can cause you to miss vital information or instructions on what to do next.
Overview Button
The “Overview” button is available from almost every screen, appearing in the bottom left corner. Clicking the Overview button takes you to a bird’s-eye view of the entire facility. From there, you can click on a point on the map to go directly to that area. You can also “Go Back” to return to where you were, or you can “Exit Program.”
Exiting the Program
There are three ways to exit the Virtual Practicum, and your progress will be saved regardless of which you choose. When you come back to the Virtual Practicum, you will return to where you left off.
To exit the program:
- Click the “X” which appears in the top right corner of every screen (in windowed view)
- Click the “Overview” button, and then click the “Exit Program” button, or
- Click on the EXIT door in the Reception area of the clinic (see below).
