Research Forensic Social Scientist
Misty Marra is a Research Forensic Social Scientist in the Investigative Science Program of the Division of Applied Justice Research at RTI International. In this capacity, she serves as a Regional Technical Team Lead – DNA Specialist for Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) grantees on the East Coast Region. For 24 years, Misty was employed at the Marshall University Forensic Science Center DNA Laboratory. There she performed the analysis/review of more than 5,000 forensic DNA cases, which included sexual assault, homicides, and property crimes as well as analysis of more than 10,000 convicted offender samples. She was instrumental in coordinating sexual assault kit (SAK) testing projects and technical review of outsourced SAK projects with agencies and crime laboratories across the United States. Misty has served as DNA Subject Matter Expert and has conducted instructional webinars and on-site trainings regarding DNA and its use in criminal cases with a focus on sexual assault cases both nationally and internationally for entities such as RTI International, SANE-SART Resource Services, the Office for Victims of Crime, and End Violence Against Women International.
