Dr. Lisa Avalos is a law professor at the University of Arkansas who works with international nongovernmental organizations to develop policy solutions to gender-based human rights violations such as rape, child marriage, and honor-based violence. Dr. Avalos has conducted in-depth interviews with numerous rape victims who have been prosecuted for false reporting, and her work on the prosecution of rape complainants has appeared, or is forthcoming, in several law journals. She has also served as an expert witness in cases involving mishandled rape investigations and has advocated for rape victims in both the US and Britain. Research Her research focuses on international human rights with an emphasis on women’s human rights, gender-based violence, and sexual violence. Teaching interests include gender-based violence, international human rights, and criminal law.
