Brighton/Commerce City Victim Services Manager, Brighton Police Department
Kim Messina is the Victim Services Manager for the Brighton and Commerce City Police Departments Victim Services Unit, located in the 17th Judicial District. Ms. Messina has served in the area of Victim Services for the past 27 years holding a variety of executive leadership positions. The majority of her experience has been in Law Enforcement Victim Services. Ms. Messina is an experienced victim services grant writer and has successfully obtained several grants. She also has extensive experience training police department staff on trauma reactions, the grieving process and Victims’ Rights Amendment requirements and providing direct services to clients at hospitals as a result of personal tragedy and crimes. Ms. Messina is the departments’ program Administrator for “You Have Options” a nationally recognized program for victims of sexual assault. She supervises the 17th Judicial District Sexual Assault Response Team Coordinator. Ms. Messina also has extensive experience as a liaison between the client, the criminal justice system, medical personnel, and community resources. She actively participates on community boards to develop countywide policies and protocols ensuring seamless services for clients. Ms. Messina also worked for the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA), The Jefferson County Children’s Alliance and the 17th Judicial District, District Attorney’s Office. Ms. Messina obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Metro State College of Denver.
