Detective (Ret.), Training Specialist, Texas Association Against Sexual Assault
Detective Farbo is a law enforcement training specialist at the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault (TAASA) in Austin, Texas. She began her law enforcement career with the Austin Police Department (APD) in 1986. There she worked patrol for eight years and with at-risk youth for four years. Det. Farbo was promoted to detective in 1997, where she spent a year in Missing Persons and her last 12 years in the Sex Crimes Unit. Her investigations included felony stranger and non-stranger sexual assault cases, serial rapists, drug and alcohol facilitated cases, investigations involving same sex victims and intimate partner sexual assaults. During this time, The APD Sex Crimes Unit was nationally recognized for its progressive approach toward investigating sexual assaults and was Unit of the Year. Det. Farbo retired from the Austin Police Department after 24 years of service, with a Master Peace Officer’s License and is Texas Coalition of Law Enforcement (TCOLE) accredited.Since joining TAASA in 2016, Det. Farbo has consulted with the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) on statewide trainings and provided training and technical assistance to local, state and federal law enforcement officers, as well as advocates, nurses and attorneys, sharing her knowledge and expertise in the area of trauma-informed sexual assault investigations.
