Detective Farbo began her law enforcement career with the Austin Police Department (APD) in 1986. She worked patrol for 8 years, and with at-risk youth for 4 years, before being promoted to detective in 1997. She then spent a year in Missing Persons and her last 12 years in the Sex Crimes Unit. Her investigations included felony stranger and non-stranger sexual assault, serial rapists, drug and alcohol facilitated sexual assault, investigations involving same sex victims and intimate partner sexual assaults. During this period, the APD Sex Crimes Unit was nationally recognized for its progressive approach toward investigating sexual assaults and was Unit of the Year.
Detective Farbo retired from the Austin Police Department after 24 years of service, with a Master Peace Officer’s License and is accredited by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Since joining TAASA in 2016, Detective Farbo consults with the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) and TCOLE on statewide trainings, sharing her knowledge and expertise in the area of trauma-informed sexual assault investigations. She also provides training and technical assistance to local, state and federal law enforcement officers, as well as advocates, nurses and attorneys
