Daniel J. Sheridan, PhD, RN, FAAN is a Professor at the Texas A&M University College of Nursing in Bryan, Texas where he helped create the Forensic Health Care Education, Research, and Intervention Program. Dr. Sheridan retired in 2013 as an Associate Professor after teaching 12 years at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, where he developed forensic nursing courses at the baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degree levels. Dr. Sheridan has performed over 500 forensic evidentiary examinations on patients with a history of sexual assault as well as over a thousand forensic examinations of patients with a history of intimate partner violence. He provides expert forensic case reviews to defense and prosecution teams in the military and civilian court systems. Dr. Sheridan is a former board member of the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and a former Board President of the International Association of Forensic Nurses. He has published more than 40 clinical and research articles on nursing’s role in abuse and forensics and has given over 600 invited lectures on these topics nationally and internationally.
