Serving Transgender Sexual Assault Survivors
By understanding adversities that transgender+ patients face in accessing healthcare, we can begin the process of educating practitioners through SP/GTA/MUTA training. Transgender+ persons experience sexual violence at higher reported rates than the cisgender population and are at greater risk for a multitude of physical/mental illnesses. Practitioners often learn of specific risks, health concerns, potential anxieties, and treatments from transgender+ patients’ mid-examination because education is not provided at their institutions.
