The Story Behind Athlete A: The heroes who took down Larry Nassar

October 29 @ 4:00 pm - 5:15 pm MDT

Athlete A is a documentary film that focuses on the gymnasts who survived USA Gymnastics Doctor Larry Nassar’s abuse, the reporters who exposed USAG’s toxic culture, and the investigator and prosecutor who led the criminal justice team that brought down Larry NassarJoin us for this exclusive event to discuss the true story behind Athlete A.

We will have the honor of talking with Rachel Denhollander, the first woman to accuse Larry Nassar publicly. We will also hear from Mark Alesia, a member of the team of reporters that inspired her to come forward. Ms. Povilaitis, the lead prosecutor of the Nassar state prosecution, and Lieutenant Munford, the detective in charge of the investigation, the lead investigator, will share the strategies used to convict a prolific perpetrator who hid – in plain sight – behind the mask of respect, education, prestige, and Olympic and collegiate glory. They will reveal how the unique plea agreement resulted in an unprecedented and empowering sentencing hearing that allowed hundreds of women to come forward and speak their truth while the world watched.

Survivors are extremely powerful when it comes to changing the narrative around rape and sexual assault. Over the past two years, the country has witnessed remarkable courage and leadership from survivors working to improve the criminal justice and public response to sexual assault. They have raised the national consciousness and made #MeToo and #StartbyBelieving part of our daily lexicon. Join us to discuss why we must Start by Believing, and to celebrate the courage of those who survived America’s most prolific sexual predator.

Your support will help ensure that survivors get the caring response they deserve. Can’t attend? Don’t worry, you can still make a donation.
