From hopelessness and despair, survivors of domestic and sexual violence can be empowered to take the critical journey beyond abuse from victim to survivor to thriver and reclaim their lives. Learn a motivational model based on Dr. Judith Herman’s stages of recovery from trauma that can help survivors build resiliency, restore their self-esteem, and bolster their self-determination to move beyond abuse. Explore the model’s methods developed by Susan Omilian, a survivor of a domestic violence homicide who has worked with domestic violence and sexual assault victims for more than forty years. Ms. Omilian will demonstrate the innovative, evidence-based, and life-changing techniques successfully being used to help women move from survivors to thrivers – healthy, happy people with brilliant, productive futures. The methods include positive storytelling, exercises to counter negative, limiting beliefs that sabotage forward movement, and tools for strategic visioning and goal setting so survivors can manifest a life of power and purpose despite all that has happened to them.
